No! The baffling thing about performance remaps, is it’s not just extra performance & acceleration that you can get with this type of map.
Because the settings in the ECU (Engine Control Unit) have been optimised to make the engine work more efficiently, this results in more power & torque.
Whilst the extra power and torque will definitely improve the performance & drivability of your vehicle, if used sensibly, you can get more mpg too.

As soon as your car, van or motorhome has been remapped for performance, you’ll notice the difference straight away.
Although sometimes, the improvements can get even better after the first few start-ups and drives as the ECU learns to use the new settings that have been installed.
This will vary from vehicle model to model, as well as engine type. But whether you’ve had petrol or diesel remapped for better performance, you’ll notice the difference immediately.

With all Ace Performance Remaps, after we carry out our initial vehicle & diagnostic checks, we then download the original vehicle settings from the ECU, optimize them & reload these new, more efficient settings back into your vehicle.
When ECU tuning for performance, we optimize the ECU settings to bring the power in a little bit lower down the rev range & keep it going a little higher up the revs too, for ‘spirited’ driving.
Our performance remapping adds some additional turbo boost a little lower down to remove/reduce some of the turbo lag, for better throttle response.
Also, some of the torque curves and limits are optimised to give more power and better safe performance.

A Stage 1 remap is the first performance remapping level for vehicles that have had little or no other mechanical modifications made to the engine and ancillaries.
This stage 1 performance remap is suitable if you perhaps have added a better quality air filter, and/or a more free-flowing exhaust system.
If you have made any other more major mechanical changes to items like turbos, intercoolers, injectors, etc, then a stage 1 remap would not be the best option
Ace Remaps are able to install a stage 1 remap either with our mobile service where we come to you or at our Car Care Centre where you can visit us.
This is where things get a little more complicated, as a stage 2 remap is usually needed because there have been some quite serious modifications made to the engine and/or ancillary components.
Engine modifications such as bigger/better turbos, larger injectors, bigger intercoolers, etc mean that the standard ECU setting will not get the best performance out of these upgraded parts.
So in this case a stage 2 remap is what’s needed.
Whilst we are able to make better use of the mods made to an engine with this sort of upgrade and have some great stage 2 performance remaps for some common upgrades, this is really where a dyno or rolling road comes into its own.
As live data can be recorded whilst the vehicle is in the workshop on the dyno, this can be used to fine-tune the performance remap to get the very best out of the modified and/or upgraded parts.
