As well as your engine having an electronic management system (ECU) to control how your engine operates, modern gearboxes also have an electronic management system (TCU – transmission control unit) that controls the auto gearbox, which you can also have remapped.

Remapping your gearbox can be done on its own, but is usually carried out in conjunction with an engine remap to further improve the performance & overall driving experience & feel of your car, van or motorhome.

As the standard gearbox map is often the limiting factor in the performance of many vehicles, especially when the engine is remapped, tuning & recalibration of your gearbox with a remap is sometimes required to remove torque limits in the gearbox TCU, allowing you to take advantage of the additional torque produced by your remapped engine.

So, to get the best performance from your vehicle with an auto box, we’d suggest tuning both the ECU & TCU control units to match each other, and we offer a package (at a reduced cost) if you have both remaps carried out together.

Audi Gearbox Remapping & DSG Remaps

One of the most popular brands for gearbox remapping is the Audi range, which uses the direct-shift gearbox or DSG (Direkt-Schalt-Getriebe in German), and is often referred to as an S-Tronic gearbox.

Simply described, this is actually two separate manual gearboxes and two clutches contained within a single gearbox housing and working as one unit, enabling quicker gearchanges up & down the box.

There are quite a few variations of DSG gearboxes, and some are more able to be tuned & re-calibrated via a TCU remap than others, but there are many benefits to remapping a DSG as can be seen below.
